I bought this at a clearance store for $89 less 20% for a total before tax price of $71.20. It is a gift for a seriously ill grandchild. He has been begging for an iPad or an iPod touch, which we cannot afford. He will hopefully be able to entertain himself with it in the hospital.) I also bought a Sandisk 8GB SD card to go in it.I just spent several hours playing with it to see if it works and if I should return it.It was created to be an e-reader for Borders, which is bankrupt. However, I set up an Adobe ID and touched the Borders icon. It came up with a Kobo site. It appears that it would be possible to download books from Kobo books. It displayed current books for $9.99 as if it would be possible to down load them.I was able to get the browser to work on my secured router and it seems to be pretty good. I managed to get a Facebook application to work, and it worked well, but could not find how I got to it later.Being for a 6 year old, I was concerned about the availability of games and the like. The app store had 99 games for children listed. I downloaded and installed 2 and they both worked. Hopefully, he will be happy with the selection. The games are listed on the pop up menu along with other "apps". There appeared to be 3,000 or 4,000 apps in the appstore.The registration of the keyboard can supposedly be adjusted. I didn't have much trouble with it. It is a virtual keyboard on a touch screen, so it isn't as foolproof as a physical keyboard. I found that firm presses are required. When moving the screen items up or down by sliding one's finger, I discovered that it works best with a firm touch. At first, I had trouble with it.It comes with an a/c adapter and USB cable. It cannot be charged via USB. It came with a case, which I didn't take out of the box. I didn't look for the stylus, which some say doesn't exist. Besides, I don't think a stylus is required to use this.I read part of a book that was pre-installed and found it to be quite useable. I believe it has 25 public domain books installed.I played music that was pre-installed and the speaker does work. It has a headphone socket to plug in headphones. Not having a set of headphones, I couldn't test that function.It seemed to recognize the 8GB card (7.? GB of course).All, in all I think it is well worth what I paid and even more. I think it is worth about $105.*UPDATE* 08/19/2011After reading the review that came after mine about the tablet being returned to the clearance store, I thought I had better check it out again to be certain that I know whether it is worth keeping. After checking it out a second time, I have these comments:1. This is NOT an iPad or an iPod Touch. If you purchase it expecting it to be, you will certainly be disappointed. However, it is not $500, either.2. I found a set of headphones and played the pre-recorded music again finding good rich sound through them. The volume could be a little louder, though.3. The key press registration is a little frustrating. I frequently make errors on the virtual keyboard and have to delete the character and re-press the correct "key". I have another Android tablet and have the same trouble with it. Not having an Apple device, I can't compare them.4. The better (read: more expensive) tablets have a capacitive touch screen. This apparently has a resistive touch screen. It definitely takes a much more firm press than an Apple product probably would.5. The browser can be a little slow, but I find it acceptable.6. Unlike the Apple products, you can insert an SD card for more storage AND it is recharged via an a/c adapter. However, it does NOT have a camera.I think I will keep this for my grandson and hope it isn't too frustrating for him. I have decided that it probably is worth about $89.00. It more than likely has no valid warranty. Just keep in mind that this is NOT a current model device and the Border's support no longer exists.*UPDATE* 08/20/2011Stylus is located inside the case in a pocket on the spine.Important APPS are available for download at NextBookUSA dot com. Another app store, task killer and Kobo Books Apps are available for download.Some physical keys, including home and back arrow, are apparently missing in this design. They are available as virtual keys ONLY which can create problems with some applications.I calibrated the touch screen and it works much better. For some reason the calibration failed the first 2 tries but succeeded on the 3rd. I now have little trouble using the virtual keyboard.*UPDATE* 08/26/2011I have discovered (by searching the Internet) a number of sources of .APK files. These APPs can be downloaded to one's computer and copied over to the Next2's SD card or the Next2 itself. There are a variety of APP types available on these third party sites. One problem I have found is that with the important keys (Home, back arrow) available only as virtual keys on the Next2, I have been unable to get out of many programs. The only way I have found to exit these APPs is to power the tablet off and then on.The good news is that it is possible to install many different apps. The bad news is that you get what you pay for (with respect to the tablet).After recalibrating the touch screen, I find that the browser is a pleasure to use.I found the latest version of the Facebook APP .APK file and installed it. It seems to work fine, however there is no way I have found to sign off. To access a different Facebook account, I have found one has to uninstall the Facebook APP and re-install it.I have left the .APK distribution files on the SD card to make it easy to re-install the APPs. This frees up space in the internal storage.UPDATE 09/29/2011:Now that Amazon has announced a tablet for $199 (Amazon Kindle Fire), I feel the value of this particular tablet has fallen to about $40 or $50. My understanding is that the Fire will be supported much better than this tablet.UPDATE: 11/06/2011I have finally given the Next2 to my daughter and grandson (who is back in the hospital). They love it! My daughter says the included stylus makes it a lot easier to use than using one's fingers. I did have a problem with it freezing once and remedied that by inserting the back end of a hoop ear ring in the reset hole on the back. My daughter and grandson use it for games, reading the included books and Internet browsing. My daughter uses it for email and Facebook. She especially likes the fact that it charges via a 110volt converter rather than having to be plugged into a computer. She left her laptop at home and uses the Next2 to communicate via the Internet. Additional info: Just visited my grandson and daughter at the hospital. She told me that in the 3 days she has had it, the Next2 has froze 3 times. She was easily able to get going again by inserting a thin piece of metal in the reset hole on the back. She doesn't consider it a big deal.

However, I set up an Adobe ID and touched the Borders icon. It came up with a Kobo site. It appears that it would be possible to download books from Kobo books. It displayed current books for $9.99 as if it would be possible to down load them.I was able to get the browser to work on my secured router and it seems to be pretty good. I managed to get a Facebook application to work, and it worked well, but could not find how I got to it later.Being for a 6 year old, I was concerned about the availability of games and the like. The app store had 99 games for children listed. I downloaded and installed 2 and they both worked. Hopefully, he will be happy with the selection. The games are listed on the pop up menu along with other "apps". There appeared to be 3,000 or 4,000 apps in the appstore.The registration of the keyboard can supposedly be adjusted. I didn't have much trouble with it. It is a virtual keyboard on a touch screen, so it isn't as foolproof as a physical keyboard. I found that firm presses are required. When moving the screen items up or down by sliding one's finger, I discovered that it works best with a firm touch. At first, I had trouble with it.It comes with an a/c adapter and USB cable. It cannot be charged via USB. It came with a case, which I didn't take out of the box. I didn't look for the stylus, which some say doesn't exist. Besides, I don't think a stylus is required to use this.I read part of a book that was pre-installed and found it to be quite useable. I believe it has 25 public domain books installed.I played music that was pre-installed and the speaker does work. It has a headphone socket to plug in headphones. Not having a set of headphones, I couldn't test that function.It seemed to recognize the 8GB card (7.? GB of course).All, in all I think it is well worth what I paid and even more. I think it is worth about $105.*UPDATE* 08/19/2011After reading the review that came after mine about the tablet being returned to the clearance store, I thought I had better check it out again to be certain that I know whether it is worth keeping. After checking it out a second time, I have these comments:1. This is NOT an iPad or an iPod Touch. If you purchase it expecting it to be, you will certainly be disappointed. However, it is not $500, either.2. I found a set of headphones and played the pre-recorded music again finding good rich sound through them. The volume could be a little louder, though.3. The key press registration is a little frustrating. I frequently make errors on the virtual keyboard and have to delete the character and re-press the correct "key". I have another Android tablet and have the same trouble with it. Not having an Apple device, I can't compare them.4. The better (read: more expensive) tablets have a capacitive touch screen. This apparently has a resistive touch screen. It definitely takes a much more firm press than an Apple product probably would.5. The browser can be a little slow, but I find it acceptable.6. Unlike the Apple products, you can insert an SD card for more storage AND it is recharged via an a/c adapter. However, it does NOT have a camera.I think I will keep this for my grandson and hope it isn't too frustrating for him. I have decided that it probably is worth about $89.00. It more than likely has no valid warranty. Just keep in mind that this is NOT a current model device and the Border's support no longer exists.*UPDATE* 08/20/2011Stylus is located inside the case in a pocket on the spine.Important APPS are available for download at NextBookUSA dot com. Another app store, task killer and Kobo Books Apps are available for download.Some physical keys, including home and back arrow, are apparently missing in this design. They are available as virtual keys ONLY which can create problems with some applications.I calibrated the touch screen and it works much better. For some reason the calibration failed the first 2 tries but succeeded on the 3rd. I now have little trouble using the virtual keyboard.*UPDATE* 08/26/2011I have discovered (by searching the Internet) a number of sources of .APK files. These APPs can be downloaded to one's computer and copied over to the Next2's SD card or the Next2 itself. There are a variety of APP types available on these third party sites. One problem I have found is that with the important keys (Home, back arrow) available only as virtual keys on the Next2, I have been unable to get out of many programs. The only way I have found to exit these APPs is to power the tablet off and then on.The good news is that it is possible to install many different apps. The bad news is that you get what you pay for (with respect to the tablet).After recalibrating the touch screen, I find that the browser is a pleasure to use.I found the latest version of the Facebook APP .APK file and installed it. It seems to work fine, however there is no way I have found to sign off. To access a different Facebook account, I have found one has to uninstall the Facebook APP and re-install it.I have left the .APK distribution files on the SD card to make it easy to re-install the APPs. This frees up space in the internal storage.UPDATE 09/29/2011:Now that Amazon has announced a tablet for $199 (Amazon Kindle Fire), I feel the value of this particular tablet has fallen to about $40 or $50. My understanding is that the Fire will be supported much better than this tablet.UPDATE: 11/06/2011I have finally given the Next2 to my daughter and grandson (who is back in the hospital). They love it! My daughter says the included stylus makes it a lot easier to use than using one's fingers. I did have a problem with it freezing once and remedied that by inserting the back end of a hoop ear ring in the reset hole on the back. My daughter and grandson use it for games, reading the included books and Internet browsing. My daughter uses it for email and Facebook. She especially likes the fact that it charges via a 110volt converter rather than having to be plugged into a computer. She left her laptop at home and uses the Next2 to communicate via the Internet. Additional info: Just visited my grandson and daughter at the hospital. She told me that in the 3 days she has had it, the Next2 has froze 3 times. She was easily able to get going again by inserting a thin piece of metal in the reset hole on the back. She doesn't consider it a big deal.
