4.0 out of 5 starsOutstanding value for the price (includes instructions for using USB keyboard and/or mouse)October 21, 2012

This review is for the Nextbook Premium 7SE tablet, running Android 4.0 with a Cortex A8 processor.First off, the specs:7 inch Capacitive touch screen800x480 pixel resolutionRK2918 A8 Cortex chipset/processor, 1 GHz512 MB ram DDR3Over the air update capable4 GB memory0.44 inch thinMicroSD compatible, easy setupGetJar app market (NOT Google Play compatible, however it IS compatible with Amazon's appstore)2 MP frontal cameraPreloaded Barnes & Noble bookstore and eBook readerIncludes speakers, headphone port and microphone on the backAdobe Flash capable and bundledIncludes AC adapter, USB cable and a "protective" pouch (translation: cheap, fabric bag)As you can see, not too shabby for a budget tablet. I WOULD have bought the Kindle Fire, but I just use tablets for reading and the occasional Angry Birds boredom session, so the tradeoff is fair enough for me. Now for the pros:-Excellent screen quality. Images are clear, video playback and streaming so far works great and transitions are near-flawless with the occasional hiccup.-Super thin and light. This tablet is very easy to carry and almost weightless, which is a nice bonus for people who don't like heavy things. I prefer them to be a bit heavier (they feel more secure) but I didn't mind the size here.-Runs graphics heavy apps like Angry Birds Space perfectly, and most apps work great.-Its default browser is surprisingly capable in my opinion and offers competition against Dolphin HD. Haven't had one issue with it.-WiFi connection is easy to set up and the start up wizard is competent.-If I'm correct, you can use this as a webcam on your computer, but I have yet to try this function.-Unlike what most reviews in other product pages say, this product IS compatible with a USB keyboard and mouse. Last I heard (I have yet to try it, will update when I do so), it's a matter of:1) Go to Settings2) USB Connection3) Change to Host Mode and try plugging in the KeyboardThat's it. It has to pick it up.Now for the cons, most of which are surprisingly minor:-Speaker quality is decent but could be better. Audio comes out tinny at times. For what I use it, it works, but I'd prefer using headphones. Their location as well is cumbersome and makes my hands cover them unconsciously.-Lack of a dedicated menu button and other standard buttons. How they were not included is beyond me. This might cause issues with apps like Kindle (latest version) where the Menu icon is strangely gone, making the Menu and settings inaccessible. However, you can install Kindle for 2.1 Android and you'll have no problems.-Kobo's bookstore compatibility is absolutely non-existent. No books ever download, and this reader IS compatible with .epub format- it brought 25 books bundled in, courtesy of the Gutenberg Project. Why Kobo refuses to work here is beyond me.-The Android version on this thing is severely restricted and locked down. You'll see what I mean. Depending on who you ask, you might have to root it. I, however, haven't seen the need to do so.-Awkward plug placement, like Headphone jack and power jack.-No Bluetooth functionality. It's to be expected, and I didn't mind, but the lack of the option is... well, annoying.-Reset button is located RIGHT WHERE THE MICROPHONE IS LOCATED. And it's so small, you need either a paper clip or a mechanical pencil to press the Reset button if the tablet freezes... which will be very rare, if not never.-You can't charge this with the USB cable- you can only charge it with its included AC adapter. Wat. :|-The camera quality is... horrendous. Use it either as a backup (this despite it being 2 MP) or as a makeshift webcam. Then again, that's not what I bought it for.-"Protective pouch" included is simply inexcusable. This was a major gripe with me. Its cheap quality is so cheap, I can't even close the bag right! They should have at least included a folio case or something.Final verdict: Despite this being sold as a "budget tablet", I have to say that this rivals the Kindle Fire or even the Nexus at least. This is NOT an iPad, or even a Galaxy Tab, despite it being so functional. But for what you pay, the tradeoff and value are amazing! If you need a good tablet but don't want to waste a lot of money, go with this one. It's a very nice deal with incredible value for the money. I've had it for about a week now, and I haven't had any problems.EDIT, OCTOBER 26TH, 2012: Just got my stylus today and tried it, specifically this one: 3 Pack Aqua Blue/Black/Red Capacitive Stylus/styli Touch Screen Cellphone Tablet Pen for iPhone 4 4s 3 3Gs iPod Touch iPad 2 Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy, BlackBerry Playbook Playbook HTC Flyer Evo View Tablet, Barnes and Noble Nook Color, Droid Bionic They work perfectly with the tablet. I recommend them if you need to use a stylus.EDIT, NOVEMBER 26TH, 2012: Been using the keyboard and case for a while. Works great and just as I mentioned earlier. Just in case, the one I got was SANOXY Slim 7 Inch Faux Leather Keyboard Case for Tabletpc Epad Apad MID Laptop Notebook Usb2.0 Stylus Stand
